Fabulous Fashion Friday: A Case for Rust & Lace

We're making the case today that combining the color rust (dark burnt orange) with creamy whites in textured lace creates a rich, elegant-meets-bohemian appeal.  Here are three takes on this mix~each with a specially chosen piece of handmade jewelry to complete the look. What's your verdict?

Look No. 1: Playful & Pretty

Here we paired a bright flowy wide-sleeve lacey blouse over a skin tight rust pencil skirt with a matching leg (rust tights) and caramel-colored boots.  Our featured boot is the Kenneth Cole Reaction tall Western kick ($158, now on sale 20% off). 

Notice the way the wide band at the bottom of the cream top--plus the peek-a-boo taupe cami--help smooth the transition to the tight skirt.

Pretty lacey texture in the fabric adds shadows and depth to an otherwise super white top! The rust colored stone earrings (see below) tie it all together.

Look #2: Casual Confidence

Here is a similar color ensemble but in totally different textures:  we layered a furry cropped sweater over an exposed taupe camisol over a luscious heavy lace rust skirt.  The result is a more artistic-mod look (versus playful).  

In designing this look we've inadvertantly created an artful block-print design, super cute!

We could not believe how incredibly perfect this mixed-metal 39 coin pearls choker by ShayD Design ($82) worked with this scoop neck pearl-button sweater, but more importantly how it tied the entire look together! Stunning!

This  scalloped-hem heavy lace skirt is the star of the show.  Including the necklace and boots, get this entire look for $276.

Look #3:  Sophisticated Empowerment  

Following our color scheme, we created a totally different~more sophisticated ~vibe here by combining: Wide-leg rust slacks ($34), a scalloped-edge long sleeve lace top ($36), Kenneth Cole caramel booties ($98), sparkling paisley silk Pashmina ($24), and handmade stick-pearl earrings by LM Inspired ($56). We can see this women giving a motivational speech to a packed room at a women's empowerment conference!  

A cascade of draping fabrics and mixed textures ebb and flow elegantly. The bold earrings ratify the entire ensemble.

Notice the way the rust paisley print in the scarf plays upon the floral lace print of the top.  And the smooth wide leg pant helps balance out all the fabric on top, too.
