FROM THE ARCHIVES: Fabulous Fashion Friday: Every Which Way Watercolors!

I love the new "painted" stripes trend and here are two perfectly easy, spunky looks featuring our new sleeveless, folded-shoulder button down tunics, by Lumiere ($42). The fabric on these elegant tops appears artfully painted in water colours moving in various linear directions. The skinny belt and shell buttons are somewhat retro, harkening to the 70's. For a playful look, we put this top over graphic leggings printed to look like shredded denim (so fun!) We are showing the same look in two color ways: Blue and Orange. What I did not expect was how different the vibe would be for each color.

First here's Blue: subtle, sophisticated, sporty, demure.
Look at the way the painted print moves in many directions.
Notice how the folded shoulder pleats and cinched waist add even more lines.
Cute faux-shredded print leggings ($18) blend nicely with the top.
Close up of those darling new Chelsey Crew lace-up spectator flats in blue $54.

Next Up, Orange: spunky, outgoing, quirky, totally cute.
This time we juiced it up a bit with contrasting jeggings and high heels.
Sexy menswear shirt tail hem. Very 1970's yet soooo now!
The orange version really shows off the directional stripes.
I love the way they look like wet, dripping gouache.
These new Chelsea Crew strappy Maryjanes are the perfect shoe to pump up this look ($58).
As we were shooting this post,  I caught a glimpse of this bold striped cardigan, and thought, "why not?" We were pleasantly surprised with the result (see below)

And here it is: double layered orange stripes together proved to be a wonderful, complementary "over the top" combination!
Talk about the Wow Factor!  And, can you believe this entire look is just under $150 including the shoes!!!

No matter which direction you are heading this spring, add a watercolour stripes tunic to your 'drobe and juice it up with sassy shoes, retro accessories, a bold sweater and fun printed jeggings.  Don't forget your compass!

Imogene
