FROM THE ARCHIVES: Fabulous Fashion Friday, Jan. 27, 2012: Warm Up with Winter White

My inspiration for today's looks is Sunshine on Snow.  That crispy warm winter white color displayed in soft sweaters or print tunics feels so fresh in the deep dark throws of winter, and is so bright it is almost springy!  I mixed in two "tribal" prints for a little understated pizazz and some wintery accessories to jazz it up too.

Here's an easy tribal print tunic over leggings and over-the-knee boots with a red skinny belt.
I can see this same look on a warm spring day with red ankle socks and black Converse sneakers, instead of the boots & leggings.
MOJO Moxy leather over the knee boots, Reg. $98 (now 50% Off).
We have them in brown, too.
I love this play on geometric patterns to evoke a tribal feel.(True tribal prints that are designed by and represent a tribe of people are much more complex, and are developed through intricate and proprietary patterns woven on a loom, and passed down through generations. Today's hot fashion trend is tribute to those artisans, but not the real thing :-).
For my second look I layered a large winter white cowel neck over what appears to be a long tribal print  skirt (it's actually a new, early spring strapless maxi dress that we layered up).

The bold shimmering loops necklace and fat black belt are imperative to maintain a long, curvy look with a defined waist line. We pushed up the sleeves to show some skin, otherwise our model might get swallowed up by the volume of fabric.
Dolman sleeves are best paired with a narrow skirt, as shown here.
The tribal print feel is created this time with a rhythmic series of horizontal patterns.
Top this look off with a winter white all-wool beanie (by Delux, $32). Make sure to wear a deep and bright red lip so as not to get washed out by the neutral color palette.

Brighten up your winter doldrums with Winter White and be sure to pile on silvery shimmery accents and little pops of red to truly stand out.

Yours in style,
Imogene
