From the Archives: Fabulous Fashion Friday-May 6th: A Day for Gray

Last Autumn 2010, gray hit the top for the hottest color in fall fashion and if you're anything like me, you fell for the soft and classy feel that the color, or lack of one, gives to an outfit. The problem is, now that it's spring, we can't wear any of our favorite gray outfits, right? Wrong! In fact, it's the other way around! Gray goes wonderfully with a number of springtime hues. Here are a few of the many gorgeous ways to dress up the gray pieces you love so much for spring.

For my first look, I took an outfit completely composed of wintery grays and added a light, colorful spring scarf and a cream colored purse. The look was already pretty springy with the cute bowed skirt, flats, and a cardigan, but when adding the light colors, the outfit suddenly came alive like a spring crocus popping out of the snow.

She's so ready for spring, she's even got  her shades!
Notice how every color in the scarf compliments the outfit, showing that gray goes with pretty much any color, especially springtime pastels. Mint hues, blues, and pinks, work especially well with grays. Adding a bright necklace of one of these shades also helps the outfit pop.

Look at her beautiful sea glass necklace poking through the scarf.

For the second look, I put a colorful flyaway cardigan over a gray dress. Adding a large block of color worked wonders with the darker shade of gray making it lighter, brighter, and ready to wear on a sunny day.
Adding pops of white is flattering in small portions, such as the skinny belt on this dress, but for a larger accessory such as a sweater or purse, soft creams & taupes will work wonderfully without too much contrast.
Cute Purse!

And there you have it! There are countless ways to dress up gray outfits for spring, so allow yourself to hold on to your love for gray and have fun with it. I know I will!
