About the Works on Display
Jessica created the 11 works on display by deconstructing an 8 foot earlier work produced for her MFA thesis.  Jessica writes,  "It was just sitting rolled up in a drawer, taunting me, so I started looking at it, figuring out how to work from both sides of the translucent surface.  I envisioned smaller scale compositions, then reworked the layers and surfaces by adding color, texture, and material.  Also, by removing material, delicate cut forms create depth and luscious intricacy.

Using varnished mulberry paper, ink, hand coloring and Xacto Knives, Jessica creates these compositional puzzles on an intimate scale that allows for areas of concentrated visual language.  Jessica notes, "Each piece now has separate poetic and spatial concern to share with the viewer, like the privacy of receiving a precious secret. ..I seek an intimate visual conversation between the work and the viewer."
